Fri. 1st. Period Tiina Matikainen
Keywords:
Culture, Discussion, Intensive Reading, Literature, Presentation, Vocabulary, Writing

In this course, we will read and experience literature through short stories. We will read short stories, analyze literary elements in them, discuss them, and respond to them in writing as well as orally. You will be expected to read, think, write about, and discuss the material covered in class critically. Short stories have all the same elements as longer novels; through reading short stories, we can not only improve our reading skills in English but also learn many things about societies and their cultures.

Students will learn how to

1.     read, understand, and interpret short stories and the literary elements in them,

2.     respond to literature critically (both in writing and orally), and

3.     use reading strategies to understand vocabulary in context.
