This course is best suited for students with TOEFL scores between 425 and 460 who are reasonably comfortable taking instruction and participating in class in English have not previously taken a course in writing in English.

This course is designed to help students become confident in using their English to produce written work from paragraph length to essay length.  Students will be exposed to initial concepts in how to organize & support ideas, expand and vary sentences, improve writing styles, and structure an essay.


This course will focus on helping learners to develop skills in writing effective paragraphs and basic essays in English. Other course objectives will include:

  1. Increasing active vocabulary
  2. Developing skills in making references
  3. Developing ability for self editing

Assignments:

Students are required to submit several short writing assignments (250 words) throughout the semester, as well as a final essay of free topic at the end of the course (750 words).
