Challenging Stereotypes
Tue. 1st. Period Keith Olfers
Keywords:
Discussion, Listening, Presentation, Web Activities

Delivery: On Campus

In this class, we will discuss various stereotypes that exist in cultures around the world focusing on those most familiar to us. The goal of this class is to help you see people as individuals rather than only as members of a group, and to challenge the way you think about social interaction.

This is an active participation class: students will need to join in the discussion every day for participation credit. Use of PCs or smartphones is not allowed unless specific permission is given. Paper and electronic dictionaries are allowed, but smartphone-based dictionaries are prohibited.

This is a fun class, and we will have discussions about BLM (Black Lives Matter), stereotypes in film, gender discrimination and many more.  If you want to learn about these topics, and share your ideas, then join this class!

We will use Moodle occasionally, and there will be a Makeup class and two makeup assignments to be announced on the first day of class

Students will be evaluated on their attendance, participation, and discussions. Also, students will have some choice in the topics that are discussed

After this class, You will be able to work more easily with people from other cultures, and analyze various media and news  for bias and related social content.  You will also understand what is happening in current events around the world, and why it is happening.

Attendance: 30%
