I have been interested in Japan ever since I was a child. The main reason for this was my grandfather. He lived Japan during the Taisho era, and was here during the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. So, I studied Japanese at Oberlin College, including a year at Doshisha University. In 1996, I moved here, and in 2007 received a MA in religious studies from Tohoku University. Before coming to Keio, I taught English at Sendai University and worked as a translator for Tohoku University. I’m fascinated by the Japanese language and culture, especially popular culture such as movies, manga, and video games. I hope we can discuss these things in class! |
