In this class, you will read samples of literature by some of Japan's representative writers. You will improve your writing skills by translating them into English. You will receive detailed feedback on your writing.

Delivery: Online (conducted from SFC classroom). This class is basically "on-demand". You do not have to attend the "live" classes.

  • Improve basic writing skills
  • Develop critical thinking skills by translating difficult or "untranslatable" Japanese expressions
  • Develop communication skills by discussing difficult expressions

  • If you are a borderline A/B student you CANNOT take two Japanese Literature I classes from me (both "A Writing" and "B Translation") at the same time. Please choose one level!
  • Cheating will not be tolerated. Students caught cheating (copy/pasting text from websites, etc.) will automatically fail.

  • Note to international students: this class requires fairly high Japanese reading proficiency.
